William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) and Cristin Milioti (Made for Love) take a vacation that sends them down a bizarre path in the first trailer for The Resort, arriving next month on Peacock.
The series — which debuts with the first three episodes on Thursday, July 28 — is a "multi-generational, coming-of-age love story disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time," per the official synopsis.

'Mom' Star Kristen Johnston Joins HBO's 'Righteous Gemstones' Season 3

Kristen Johnston, who played recovering addict Tammy Diffendorf on CBS sitcom Mom, is joining the cast of HBO's The Righteous Gemstones for the upcoming third season. As first reposted by Variety, Johnston will play the character of May-May Montgomery, who is said to have a history with the Gemstone family. Further details about her character are not yet known. Johnston joins previously announced new cast member Steve Zahn (The White Lotus) for the third season of the hit comedy series. 'Righteous Gemstones' Season 3 Adds Kristen Johnston (Exclusive)

Kristen Johnston has joined "The Righteous Gemstones" Season 3 at HBO in a recurring role, Variety has learned exclusively.
Johnston joins previously announced new Season 3 cast member Steve Zahn in the comedy series. Johnston will play May-May Montgomery, who is said to have a history with the Gemstone family. Further character details are being kept under wraps.
Johnston is best known for her starring role in the NBC sitcom "3rd Rock From the Sun." The show aired for five seasons on the broadcast network, with Johnston winning the Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy twice. She is also known for playing Tammy on the CBS sitcom "Mom," which ended after eight seasons in 2021. Her other TV roles include "Our Flag Means Death," "Modern Family," "Ugly Betty," and "Sex and the City." She has also appeared in features like "Small Town Wisconsin," "Bride Wars," and "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
Jason Schwartzman Joins 'Hunger Games' Prequel as Ancestor to Caesar Flickerman

Jason Schwartzman has joined the cast of Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" for director Francis Lawrence and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Schwartzman is playing the role of Lucretius "Lucky" Flickerman, the host of the 10th Hunger Games and ancestor to Caesar Flickerman, who would become the voice of Panem.
The cast already includes Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, 'Euphoria' Star Hunter Schafer and Josh Andrés Rivera, which the Wrap first reported.

For television specifically, 2022 has been hectic. Two new Star Wars shows and two new Marvel shows premiered. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway blue herself and that's not even the buzziest series on Apple. Beyond the misdeeds and greed of the beloved televangelist family featured on HBO's "The Righteous Gemstones," one of the most marked elements of its co-creators' rude, enlightened and hilarious series is its music.
As with every other series creator-writer-actor Danny McBride has co-concocted — including 2009's "Eastbound & Down" and 2016's "Vice Principals" — the unique musical tone of "The Righteous Gemstones" comes down to the longtime friendship of college buddies McBride, composer Joseph Stephens and music supervisor Devoe Yates.
Where the musical mix of "Gemstones" is concerned, theirs is a genuinely fresh blend of new or rare sacred songs intimately tied to an equally bracing, secular Southern-fried brand of rock, blues, country and soul, to say nothing of its hot and holy original music and nuanced arrangements.
Orchestrator-composer Stephens' often-souped-up synth-wave vibe also matches the hyperactive tone of Yates' needle drops, making for a character of its own devising.

Steve Zahn is set to join Danny McBride and John Goodman in the cast of HBO's "The Righteous Gemstones" when the comedy returns for its third season, an individual with knowledge of the series told TheWrap.
Zahn, who has earned Emmy buzz for his work on another recent HBO show "The White Lotus," will play Peter, a militia leader. Production starts this month.
McBride created the show in which he also stars alongside Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine. The show concluded its second season in February and it was picked up for a third season back in January.

If you're looking for a new mystery this summer, then Peacock might have what you're looking for.
The streaming service will premiere the mystery-comedy The Resort on Thursday, July 28.
"A multi-generational, coming-of-age love story disguised as a fast-paced mystery about the disappointment of time," reads the synopsis.
"An anniversary trip puts a marriage to the test when the couple finds themselves embroiled in one of the Yucatan's most bizarre unsolved mysteries that took place fifteen years prior," it continues.
Peacock has unveiled the cast and who they will be playing.
William Jackson Harper will play Noah, also a teacher, but unlike Emma, Noah seems perfectly content floating through the mundane reality of his existence.
Cristin Milioti will play Emma, a high school teacher at a plateau in her monotonous marriage with Noah.
They're celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary when they're pulled into this mystery together.

The Resort is now taking reservations: Peacock's mystery comedy starring William Jackson Harper and Cristin Milioti will premiere on Thursday, July 28, TVLine has learned. The premiere will consist of the first three episodes, with more episodes debuting each Thursday after that.

One of the greatest elements of Danny McBride's already great hit HBO comedy "The Righteous Gemstones" is the music. The show, about a dysfunctional family of wealthy televangelists, uses original and licensed music to make everything feel real despite being an over-the-top satire, and set a particularly high bar in Season 1 with "Misbehavin,'" a hilarious take on early 60's country music that arguably serves as they show's unofficial leitmotif.

Right from the beginning of creating "The Righteous Gemstones," Danny McBride knew that he wanted Edi Patterson to be a part of it before casting her as Judy. "I first worked with her on 'Vice Principals' and just had an absolute blast with her. Danny McBride and the "Righteous Gemstones" writers' room began shaping Season 2 of the HBO megachurch comedy in the fall of 2019. They started shooting in March 2020, but after two days, the Covid-19 pandemic halted production. What started as a weeks-long delay soon turned into almost a year, and McBride — stuck in lockdown — couldn't help himself but tweak what he had. And so he rewrote the entire season.
"I ended up pulling out whole storylines and characters that didn't make it into the season," McBride tells Variety's Awards Circuit podcast. "There are things I'll probably push maybe into [the third] season, but with a little bit of perspective and a little bit of […] rest in between seasons, it just helped me sort of solidify what I really wanted to do with this season."

Bird up! Adult Swim will get even more chaos from The Eric Andre Show, renewing the series for season six. The pick up was revealed during Warner Bros. Discovery's Upfront presentation on Wednesday.
"Expect more deranged pranks, fire, and chaos in Season 666 with a jam-packed schedule of celebrities I can't believe agreed to this," said Andre.
The Eric Andre Show, set to debut on Adult Swim and HBO Max in 2023, will tout a "fresh era of radical deconstruction and self-examination." Exclusive: Anne Heche (13 Minutes), Dermot Mulroney (Umma) and McKaley Miller (Ma) will topline Full Ride, an upcoming horror-thriller from directors Jerren Lauder (The Inhabitant) and Beth Hanna (The Reappearance), which has wrapped production in Georgia.
